After being on the lamb for over 32 years, Oscar-winning director Roman Polanski was arrested on Sunday in Switzerland for a sex-related crime from the ‘70s, reports CNN.
The 76-year-old director of such films as Rosemary’s Baby and Chinatown pleaded guilty in 1977 in a California court to a single count of having unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor. And although Polanski acknowledged that he had had sex with a 13-year-old girl, he fled the U.S. before he could be sentenced and had avoided arrest up until now by living in France, which does not have maintain an extradition treaty with the U.S.
However, after U.S. officials learned that Polanski was set to arrive in Switzerland this past weekend to attend the Zurich Film Festival, prosecutors presented the Swiss government with an arrest warrant for him and local police seized Polanski at the airport. (CNN)
